Social Welfare Assistance Welfare department provides the highest quality social services that will support, develop and empower the poor and the vulnerable, as well as other persons who may experience crises. The mission of the department is to provide Professional Social Work Services geared towards the:
  • Resolution of individual and family problems
  • Enhancement of personal and social development
  • Alleviation of poverty
  • Empowerment and rehabilitation of the disabled, disadvantaged and those affected by crises and natural disasters.
National Assistance Board Our vision is to be the premier social service agency providing quality care and services for elderly persons in Barbados in order to facilitate their well-being and to promote interdependence.

The Mission of the National Assistance Board is to maintain the dignity of elderly persons in Barbados through the provision of an innovative range of social support and recreational services which are accessible and acceptable, thus enhancing their quality of life within their communities.
National Disabilities Unit Our vision is to be the leader in the development of a cohesive and interdependent society and to embrace and promote Social Justice for all.

Our mission is to facilitate, advocate, and promote the advancement and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in order to ensure equal opportunities for integration and participation in all aspects of community living.
Child Care Board Our vision is to protect and care for every child through advocacy, counselling and empowerment of the family, and where necessary provide alternative families and support, in an environment of trust with loyalty and competency.

Our mission is to have a comprehensive social service that responds to the care and protection needs of the child and family.

This programme facilitates the legal transfer of potential responsibility for a child/children under the age of eighteen years to an individual or family who are not their biological parents through:
  • The assessment and approval of the prospective adoptive parents
  • Placement of children with the approved parents
  • Statutory supervision of the child/children in the adoptive placement
  • The submission of reports to the Registrar of the Courts to facilitate the appointment.
